IndieWire - Shadow and Act - RZA’s feature directorial debut, The Man With The Iron Fist. Eli Roth, who describes the film as “a kung fu Star Wars movie, and Quentin Tarantino are both producers. In addition to Rza, Russell Crowe, Pam Grier, and Lucy Liu co-star. Principal photography ended earlier this year, but we haven’t seen anything of it; no stills, no clips, no nothing. So, as of right now, I don’t think anyone knows what this baby is going to look, sound and feel like. Even plot revelations have been slim, other than the official synopsis. Last post on this about 2 weeks ago revealed that the film is currently in post-production. I thought it might make its debut at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, but that’s not the case. So, when it might make its debut is anyone’s guess; whether it’ll head straight to theaters, or first run the festival circuit, even briefly, and then open in theaters. IMDB still lists its release date as 2011, and that might very well still happen. Though an early 2012 release may be more likely. I'm still digging, but I think the other Wahlberg movie is Broken City, the noir drama that Wahlberg is poised to star in for director Allen Hughes. In that film, Wahlberg is in talks to play a cop-turned private eye who gets caught up in a corruption scandal involving the city mayor. Russell Crowe has been offered the role of the mayor, so it sounds like that project is crystallizing with funding from Emmett/Furla Films. The scheduling complexity arose when Lawrence won the female lead over a crop of young actresses. From Avril at Chatterbox: Re interview on 975KRock this AM: "RC is filming Republic of Doyle today and over the next couple of days and is playing a character (not himself). When asked if he was playing Superman's dad he laughingly said that was something he "couldn't discuss". He said that over the next 18 months he would be very busy as he has 5 projects lined up, one after the other. He said that his music is an outlet for him and that corporate responsibility had long since killed the joy of doing the music but that the i-Tunes thing was good way of pursuing it. No physical release of the new music on CD.... yet. Russell is also going to be recording with Alan Doyle in Vancouver and Montreal in the fall, for Alan's solo project, which RC has written tracks for. He said he is "off the sauce" at the moment and will perhaps allow himself one Guiness during his time on the rock. When asked if his training regime was for a movie he again teased that this was something he "couldn't discuss". They then said they would play Too Far Gone on the air. More stuff was said including about Charlie etc. Hopefully the radio station will have the interview up to listen to soon."
