First it was devout Manly supporter Jackman who had to endure his team's 40-12 capitulation to the Storm on Friday night before Crowe - who arrived at ANZ Stadium fresh from a mercy flight from the US - suffered through his beloved Bunnies' loss to the Bulldogs on Saturday evening. Tweeting before the game, Crowe - currently filming the Darren Aronofsky epic Noah in New York - wrote: "To all esteemed Members & fans of South Sydney enjoy tonight, stand and be counted, show your boys in red and green the love, BIG LOUD LOVE." David Denby in the New Republic: Has Hollywood Murdered the Movies? How the richness of technology led to the poverty of imagination -- "...THE LANGUAGE OF big-budget, market-driven movies—the elements of shooting, editing, storytelling, and characterization—began disintegrating as far back as the 1980s, but all of this crystallized for me a decade ago, in the summer of 2001, when the slovenliness of what I was seeing that year, even in the Oscar-winning Gladiator, hit me hard. The action scenes in Gladiator were mostly a blur of whirling movement shot right up close—a limb hacked off and flying, a spurt of blood, a flash of chariot wheels. Who could actually see anything? Yet almost no one seemed to object. The old ideal of action as something staged cleanly and realistically in open space had been destroyed by sheer fakery and digital “magic”—a constant chopping of movement into tiny pieces that are then assembled by computer editing into exploding little packages. What we were seeing in Gladiator and other movies were not just individual artistic failures and crass commercial strategies, but was a new and awful idea of how to put a picture together...." I thought you were shorter blog: The Girl Russell Crowe Talked To --- "...As they were setting up the shot for another take, he stepped up to me again. He said ‘What’s your action?” I replied it was to run. He responded, “Ok, when you run by me, turn over your shoulder. The camera is right there and we’ll see your whole face. Got it?” I said yes, again completely tingling with the fact this man was speaking to me so casually and kindly. So we did the take. I did the look. After the cut, he was coming back to one and said to me ‘Did you do the look?” I told him I did. ‘What shoulder did you use?” I turned and showed him how I did it. “Good job, girly,” he said, winking at me. Throughout the rest of that angle, every time he walked by, he would smile at me. It was one of the most surreal moments of my life. - Thanks, Cindy, Patricia, Telina, Roe September 20 NY Magazine: Vulture: New Les Miserables Video: Is This Our Oscar Front-runner?Russell Crowe And Darren Aronofsky's Noah Launch Date Set!
