future, oscarwinner Russell Crowe wants to work behind the camera.
One of these days he will certainly try his hand at directing. "Iit's a natural process," the actor said Wednesday in Munich at the introduction of his new movie "A Good Year". Contrary to earlier days, the job doesn't have a prominent meaning to him anymore. Working on the movie "Cinderella Man", the life-story of boxer James Braddock, has brought him back down to earth, the 42-year old says. For 12 Months he had been completely focused on boxing and training for the movie, shown in German Theatres last fall. "In a way, you are selling your soul," emphasizes Crowe. Today he relates to his profession in a different way. "I'm more relaxed on a filmset, because I no longer feel I have to prove something." Crowe arrived at the press conference two hours late, according to him because of the simulcast visit of the Russian President Vladimir Putin. The actor, who repeatedly made headlines with his fits of rage and rough image, showed himself however good-humored. Director Ridley Scott's "A Good Year" is a romantic comedy about the arrogant financial expert from London, Max Skinner (Crowe). Who wants to sell off his inheritance: a wine estate in France. He has some trouble getting rid of the property. Responsible are a pissed off wine grower, a local beauty and the enchantment of the Provence, which grows on Max more and more. "I've asked myself the same questions that Max is asking himself in the movie", says Crowe. "Am I in the right place?" Do I do the right things?" His life has changed significantly because of his wife, singer and actor Danielle Spencer, and his two sons, who also accompanied him to the Provence during the shooting of the movie. It's the second time Crowe and Gladiator director Scott, who owns his own wine estate in the South of France, worked together. And as soon as next year their 3rd joint movie "American Gangster" will be released in the theatres. On Scott Crowe says: "He is a top-director and it's a privilege to work with him. His movies always have something special." Another director he mentioned he would like work with is the Spanish Director Pedro Almodovar. Crowe isn't worried about his Bad-Boy-Image in the media. "I'm doing alright, don't worry" he jokes. "The press writes what it wants, and isn't always on the nose." Born in New Zealand, and living on an Australien farm with his wife and two small sons, with honoria of 20 millon dollars per movie, Crowe belongs to the top earners in Hollywood. He made his breakthrough as an actor in 1997, with the role of an angry cop in LA Confidential. The industrial thriller "The Insider" (1999) brought him his first Academy nomination. He received the Award in 2001 for monumental movie "Gladiator", in which he played the Roman general Maximus. A further Oscar-Nomination Crowe received for his masterly achievement in "A Beautiful Mind" (2001), the life-story of the schizophrenic mathematical genius John F. Nash. A Good Year is based on the book with the same name by Peter Mayles who worked on the basic idea for the movie with his longtime friend Ridley Scott. The movie will be released in the theatres on November 9. Wednesday evening Crowe will attend the premiere in the Filmcasino on the Odeonplatz. (Munich). |
