hey,
re those soccer girls.
what they probably hadn't realized was my extended family,on my sister in laws side, run the Lady Matilda cafe. About 40 of us had gone down there from the farm especially to greet and fete the players. They were all waiting in the outside area, champagne ready to pop.
When that one player asked for a photo, just for practicality's sake,I offered to take a photo with the whole team, which I thought a better option than one by one. I said the Santa Claus line with a big smile, It couldn't possibly have been interpreted in any way other than how it was delivered, inclusive rather than a rejection.
Obviously the girls were all high on their win ( they beat Hong Kong 15-0 !) and hadn't put two and two together that this "coincidence" , that I happen to be there when they were, was actually a plan.
After the rebuff, which was significantly ruder than described,I did go back into that room twice, once with Charlie, but the only person who would talk to us was a girl in the team that had done security for the band at the Vanguard last year.
Dani was definitely unimpressed, and also annoyed with me for dragging her family down there for nothing.
I couldn't take a trick that hour.
Some of my group were inside to witness the exchange and it soured everybody's day to think we had interrupted our holiday for that puerile rubbish.
Consequently the champagne was put back on ice and the 40 of us simply went back to enjoying ourselves on the farm.
I couldn't care less, one way or the other, we were just being friendly,it was their choice to accept or reject.
Isn't it funny how the loud mouth girl remains nameless, but the writer is confident enough to point the finger at me . Maybe the writer and the rude girl are the same person.
Yes,South's had lost the game on friday, but we weren't playing Hong Kong.
Women's Soccer is not a big deal in this country, despite great success, I would suggest, politely and without rancor that they need all the friends they can get.
I'm glad they liked Tree's party piece, I'm sure they would have liked it more with a glass of Dom in hand.

ps. the pool at nana glen school will be completed in October , 4 1/2 years after I first donated the money. My Dad has driven this project, hooking local, state and Federal govts together on a project,no matter how simple or beneficial to the community is a long and involved process.
