April 30 Cinematical on Clive in a Second Sight film - Thanks, Steph Gayle was lucky to attend a test screening of The Golden Age. (no real spoilers) Variety: Universal is homing in on a big screen version of "Second Sight," a 1999 BBC miniseries that starred Clive Owen as a detective struggling to solve a murder before he goes blind. His character joins forces with a femme detective to try to crack the case. "Second Sight" aired Stateside on PBS and spawned a sequel, "Second Sight: Kingdom of the Blind." The deal, which is still being finalized, calls for Angry Films' Susan Montford and Don Murphy to produce and series creator Paula Milne to executive produce. Owen is not attached to "Second Sight" at this point, adds the trade. The actor is busy with several other projects, including Sin City 2 and The Professional. He plays Sir Walter Raleigh opposite Cate Blanchett's Queen Elizabeth I in Universal's The Golden Age, due this fall. - Thanks, Steph (You can get series one and two through my Amazon Link) EarthTimes: From Universal Studios Home Entertainment: Just in Time for 'The Bourne Ultimatum,' the Latest Theatrical Chapter of the $490 Million Worldwide Box-Office Phenomenon, 'The Bourne Files: 3 Disc Collection --- 'The Bourne Files: 3-Disc Collection" debuts on DVD July 24, 2007 from Universal Studios Home Entertainment. -- "When an equally deadly assassin codenamed 'Professor' (Clive Owen) is sent to dispose of him, Bourne rediscovers his extraordinary survival skills, including hand-to-hand combat, martial arts and multiple languages, and begins to understand who he really is. (Such raves!) - Thanks, Steph April 25 From Lui: Here's the wallpaper calendar sheet for May 2007. Clive as King Arthur: April 24 Douglas Pratt at MCN on the release of the Children of Men DVD: "...Because Cuaròn's approach is so invigorating, the DVD is especially appealing. The letterboxing has an aspect ratio of about 1.85:1 and an accommodation for enhanced 16:9 playback. The colors are deliberately drab, and are conveyed with a solid accuracy. The 5.1-channel Dolby Digital sound has great separation effects and an engaging dimensionality. The 110-minute program has alternate French and Spanish tracks in 5.1 Dolby, optional English, French and Spanish subtitles, 2 minutes of sensibly (but still fascinating) deleted scenes, a very good, thoughtful 27-minute essay on where the world is heading (recommendation: buy property in Alaska), a 6-minute reflection upon the film's meanings by one of the philosophers featured in the essay, and 24 minutes of interesting production featurettes." The Golden Age Teaser Trailer has been removed - It might have been a version that Universal has not approved. April 17 Cinema Blend: Clive Owen goes International ESPN: The Zen Master goes all out (Phil Jackson and the Lakers) - Perhaps no film drew more unwanted attention than Jackson's choice for last year's first-round series with the Suns. To pound home the theme of getting the ball inside, Jackson wanted Bodaken to splice in hard-edged clips from "The Sopranos" and Spike Lee's bank-heist thriller "Inside Man." For Bodaken, attaining the former was easy: set the VCR to HBO. Acquiring a copy of the latter was considerably more difficult. At the time, "Inside Man" was still in theaters. Lakers vice president Jeanie Buss knew the marketing head for the film's production company and soon the Lakers were in possession of a screening copy of "Inside Man." April 16 Film Alert Variety -- Columbia has found its "International" man. The studio landed Clive Owen to topline "The International," an action-thriller about an Interpol agent who investigates corruption at powerful banking institutions. By Viv Groskop -- When Clive Owen, bloke's bloke and lifelong Liverpool supporter, was growing up with four brothers in a working-class family inCoventry, there was not much call for men's grooming products. 'I'm sure at some point I must have had Old Spice,' he laughs. 'But now most guys use skincare even if they don't admit they do.' - Thanks. Donna The Indian Express: "The sneak preview of the movie starring Cate Blanchett was held in Los Angeles recently. With Kapoor terming the response as “exciting”, the movie seems worth waiting for. Golden Age takes the story forward by exploring the relationship between Elizabeth I and adventurer Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen)." - Thanks, Steph Kansas City.com: Kansas City will honor native son Robert Altman with a film festival April 27-29 at the Screenland Granada Theatre in downtown KCK. Related: The NY Times -- Christopher Plummer in Inherit The Wind - "But while the subject of teaching evolution and religion in public schools is even more topical than it was when Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee’s worthy war horse first galloped onto Broadway more than half a century ago, Mr. Plummer at play is something sacred. If the Bible-quoting fundamentalists in “Inherit the Wind” want to make a case for the spark of divinity that separates man from beast, they need only point to the show’s august star, having the time of his life, as Exhibit A." icWales: "Oscar-nominated movie star Clive Owen was the first of many celebrities expected to be at Aintree during the next few days. The 42-year-old Reds fan was combining a visit to the racecourse with a chance to watch Liverpool play PSV Eindhoven at Anfield. He said: “I’m having a fantastic week – I watched Man- chester United last night, I’m going to Anfield tonight and I’m back here on Saturday.” Both Owen and TV’s Peak Practice star Gary Mavers, who was with him, are backing JP McManus’s horse L’Ami to win the world’s most famous steeplechase." - ---- Famous faces included actors Clive Owen and Sean Bean. April 11 The AP: Indian director Shekhar Kapur says next film in Queen Elizabeth I trilogy near completion - The second part of a trilogy on Britain's Queen Elizabeth I is set for an October release, the movie's director, Shekhar Kapur, was quoted as saying in a newspaper on Wednesday. The filmmaker is among the few Bollywood directors recognized in the West. Kapur shot to global fame after making "Elizabeth," which was based on the early years of the reign of England's Queen Elizabeth I. Actress Cate Blanchett, who played the title role in the 1998 film, is once again playing the 16th Century English monarch in the new movie "Golden Age," Kapur told Screen, a weekly movie newspaper in an interview published Wednesday. "It will be released on October 12. The production of the film is complete, barring music," he said, adding that well-known Indian composer A. R. Rahman and Scottish composer Craig Armstrong are working on the score in Glasgow, Scotland. The first film told the story of the young queen ascending the throne and grappling with palace intrigue and attempted assassinations. Kapur said the new film would take the story forward by exploring the relationship between Elizabeth I and Sir Walter Raleigh played by British actor Clive Owen. Raleigh was an adventurer, poet, historian and favorite courtier of Queen Elizabeth I. Blanchett is also Kapur's favored choice for the final installment of the Elizabeth trilogy. "But I have to wait for Cate to grow 10 years older to make it," he was quoted as saying. I am conducting a brief (about a week) Springtime fund raising effort for Murphsplace. You can donate, if you wish, using the box in the right column. Thanks!! USA Today: Youth, sex are the royal subjects - In this sequel to 1998’s Elizabeth, again directed by Shekhar Kapur, Cate Blanchett reprises her role as the ruthless Virgin Queen, who is sorely tempted by Clive Owen’s dashing Walter Raleigh. - Thanks, Steph April 9 Another picture of Clive at G Lange's photo site - Thanks, RPH QT April 8 - Happy Easter The NY Times: Jolly Good Show ... Or Was It? -- COULD it be that the mere presence of an English accent is enough to bewitch American audiences into overrating performances by British actors? That’s the cheeky suggestion made recently by the British actor, novelist, critic and all-around cultural Renaissance guy Stephen Fry. “I shouldn’t be saying this — high treason really — but I sometimes wonder if Americans aren’t fooled by our accent into detecting a brilliance that may not really be there,” he told the British magazine Radio Times. “I mean, would they notice if Jeremy Irons or Judi Dench gave a bad performance? Not that those two paragons ever would, but it’s worth considering.” -- A.O. Scott: "LIKE most generalizations of its kind, this one is open to easy challenge. There is no shortage of exceptions that seem to disprove it. Kate Winslet? Daniel Day-Lewis? These are surely British actors — one of them is the child of a poet laureate, by Jove — but they don’t really fit the profile, and not only because they are adept at disguising their accents and playing American. What about Clive Owen in “Children of Men”? What about Samantha Morton? Alfred Molina?" April 7 Worstpreviews.com: (Shoot-em-up) - The actors that were cast in the film could be what saves this project. Clive Owen stars as Mr. Smith, in a sort of James Bond role. Back in 2004, Owen was up for the role of the secret agent, with even Pierce Brosnan backing him, but eventually the producers went in a different direction, casting Daniel Craig. So Shoot 'Em Up will be Owen's chance to show what kind of Bond he would have been. In fact, during a car chase two thirds of the way through the film, the James Bond theme song is played, and will likely get a reaction from the audience. - Thanks, Steph April 5 /film.com: On Sin City 2 April 2 BBC-GQ: Most Stylish Star - Clive is #3 March 31 - April 1 The NY Times Magazine today has an ad for Alfonso Cuaron and COM sponsored by Universal - Page 18 in the hard copy.
