From the Electric Palace UK: "Hollywood star, Clive Owen, will be joining Mike Hodges, one of the most influential film directors of the last 40 years, to discuss their movies with an audience at the Electric Palace in Harwich. The fundraising evening next Sunday, August 5, will be showing two of Mike's films - the classic gangster movie, Get Carter, starring Michael Caine, and Croupier starring Clive Owen - to raise funds for the Electric Palace Appeal fund, which the Standard is supporting. Since its release in 1971, Get Carter has reached iconic status as one of the most significant British ganster films made, influencing the work of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. Croupier will start at 4pm followed by Get Carter.
At the end of each film the audience will get their chance to question Mr Owen and Mr Hodges on the movies. Peter Hadley, press officer for the Electric Palace, said: "Clive has really thrown his weight behind the appeal since becoming the patron last year. "With both Clive and Mike coming to the palace, this promises to be one of the most exciting and interesting events we have run." The Electric Palace is close to hitting its target of £15,000 for urgent work on the structure of one of Britain's oldest working cinemas. A total of £85,000 is needed to complete the work, which should come from lottery and heritage grants. Tickets are on sale at the box office for £11."

Life and a Movie - Word press Blog: Chances are that you never heard of 1998’s Croupier starring Clive Owen. Or… if you have, then perhaps its because you caught wind of the movie’s unfortunate distinction of having been disqualified from The Academy Awards based on a technicality — it was shown on Dutch television, rendering it ineligible for the award. Too bad
